Knobology, Aorta, eFAST, Doppler, Lung Ultrasound, Vascular Access, FELS

About the Course

The Advanced Emergency Ultrasound workshop is taught jointly by Sonographers and FACEM Consultants and includes machine set-up, knobology, image optimization, AAA, EFAST, Lung, Vascular Access and FELS. All modules are CCPU accredited with ASUM. The course is delivered over a three day hand-on workshop supplemented by online learning modules.

The course is delivered using blended model of training that provides online prelearning to cover core knowledge together with a hands-on workshop to teach procedural skills and simulation with the aim of building confidence with scanning technique, image optimisation and recognition of pathology.

The training meets the ACEM Ultrasound Training requirements and is relevant to trainees in Emergency Medicine requiring to complete the 5 Ultrasound modules.

Day 1 Program: Aorta and eFAST

  • Knobology - Core skills

  • Ultrasound of the Abdominal Aorta

  • Trauma ultrasound: eFAST protocol

Day 2 Program: Lung and Vascular Ultrasound

  • Lung Scanning using B-mode and M-Mode

  • Vascular Ultrasound: vascular anatomy, scanning techniques

  • Ultrasound guided advanced vascular access

Day 3 Program: FELS

  • Imaging of the heart using the 4 cardiac views

  • Imaging of the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC)

  • Using Ultrasound to identify Cardiac Tamponade, Cardiogenic Shock, Massive Pulmonary Embolism, Sepsis and Hypovolaemia

ASUMASUM Accreditation
