It is easy to miss the seriously ill child who presents with subtle clinical findings, or feel uncomfortable when required to manage the seriously ill child.

In this course we examine a range of common emergency presentations and discuss clinical history and examination, red flags for serious illness, and clinical management of the seriously ill child.

The course will specifically review:

  • 1. Red flags for serious illness in a child/vomiting and dehydration

  • 2. Approach to respiratory distress in the young child

  • 3. Assessment of the febrile infant

  • 4. Acute asthma: red flags for severe asthma/acute management

  • 5. The child with cardiac arrest secondary to drowning
