EDGE24 Module 14 : First Trimester Bleeding
Latest Course Update: January 2024
In this module we explore the assessment, differential diagnosis and management of this PV bleeding in early pregnancy.
Bleeding and / or pelvic pain in the first trimester are common emergency presentations in the pregnant patient. For most patients the symptom will be the result of a threatened or complete miscarriage however a cautious approach should be routinely applied to the assessment aiming to rule out the major life threats including ectopic pregnancy, septic abortion and incomplete miscarriage.
Approaching the pregnant patient can be a little disconcerting for those with little or no obstetric experience. This module has been written to foster a great understanding of the complications that may occur in the pregnant patient and build confidence in assessment and management of these special patients.
